Kids & Teens

The CrossFit for Kids and Teens program here at CrossFit Furnace has been developed to help kids to grow up healthy, strong and develop a lifelong love of fitness. The CrossFit for Kids and Teens program is designed with the unique needs of young athletes in mind. They combine skills practice and workouts that focus on building strength and conditioning. Our classes include elements of gymnastics, weight lifting, body weight movements, running, skipping, and more – all in a fun and safe environment scaled to suit your child’s individual level of fitness and ability.

What does this mean for your child or teen?

Kids and Teens have a constantly varied program so the novelty of each workout keeps them motivated to participate. The functional movements involve exercises that are fundamental to all things that kids need to do when they play – pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift and jump. All of the movements are taught safely and effectively under the close supervision of CrossFit qualified coaches.

When fitness is defined as broad, inclusive and general it means that participants will become well-rounded athletes. The goal is to make them better at any and every sport that they play because the program doesn’t coach them to be good at just one thing. Our workouts will increase physical competence in 10 fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

CrossFit kids 7-12

Note that each class is further broken down into 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 year olds.

At this age we learn the basic gymnastic movements, squatting, push ups, pull ups, core strength work & climbing. We also introduce the foundations of olympic lifting technique, plyometric training, speed and agility drills, rowing and stretching.

Along with these movements, we work on listening and communication skills, social skills and confidence building in a positive reinforcement environment. Our focus in classes is to work on a physical element while teaching spatial awareness, good movement patterns and an appreciation for living a healthy lifestyle.

CrossFit Teens 12-16

Depending on ability, a child may remain in the kids’ program for an extra few terms before advancing to the teen program.

The Teen program is a strength and conditioning program at its core. We utilise more complex olympic lifting movements and start lifting heavier weights. We move into some more advanced gymnastic movements that emphasis core to extremity progression, along with body weight movements, speed and agility drills, rowing and recovery techniques.

While the weights Teens lift get heavier, our first priority is the safety of our athletes. We always teach “perfect practice makes perfect” and a Teen is not  able to start increasing the weight of any lifts during classes until they are demonstrating correct technique, even under fatigue. Whether your Teen is looking for an off season strength and conditioning training program or is looking for all year fitness, CrossFit Furnace’s program will challenge them to become the best athletes they can be.

If you choose to only attend one day a week, you must nominate your day at the start of term.

We have limited places in each of the Kids and Teen classes each term. This is to make sure that we give all kids the attention they deserve in each session. All classes are capped at 10 athletes per class. All classes have fully qualified Personal Trainers and CrossFit Coaches taking the class, allowing us to closely monitor each athlete. If you would like your kids and teens to start, please register your place as it is a first in, first served basis!
